There is no doubt that the Internet has had more influence on fashion trends than any other media. While print media and television have advertised fashion for decades, the array of online sources such as stores, designer’s websites and fashion blogs have made shopping your favorite trends online easier and faster than ever before.

Just a decade ago, blogging barely existed, at least not in the form we know today. Television was much more influential as the fashions worn by characters and celebrities became popular trends. Remember Denise Huxtable’s uber-trendy ensembles from the Cosby Show? The glitzy, big-shouldered dresses from Dallas? Or the Rachel haircut from Friends? All of these styles developed from the influence of television. Consumers had to go from store to store to duplicate these famous looks

Only hardcore fashionistas of the ’80s and ’90s had subscriptions to Women’s Wear Daily or Vogue magazine, the prominent fashion industry media leaders of the day. Fashion fans had to wait for Vogue’s thick September issue to see what was hot on the runways for the upcoming year. Today there are thousands of fashion bloggers and online discounters bringing the latest trends to your fingertips, and making it easier to shop for trendy, up-to-the-minute clothes and accessories.

Fortunately it’s much easier to get a jump on fashion trends and to be an armchair fashionista. You no longer need to visit New York City or Paris to have access to the latest styles in clothing and home furnishings. All you need is an internet connection, a Visa prepaid debit card, and some online discount codes to have your fashion addiction delivered to your doorstep in a matter of days.

Staying on top of the latest trends is a fun endeavor for people who enjoy looking their best. However, staying trendy without breaking the bank demands extra time to research where you can find certain fashion accessories. Web directories such as Canada 411 offer listings of stores and boutiques and their contact information. From there, you can research further which items you’re looking for and where to find them.

In Store

Perhaps you saw a fashion accessory in a magazine, on a TV talk show or even on someone walking down the street. The surest way to get it is to visit the store. Whether a chain department store or a small boutique, find their address and buy the item in-store. Oftentimes, these fashion accessories are hard to find any other place. Call ahead to make sure the particular accessories you want are in stock.

Online

This option is a favorite for fashion enthusiasts as it allows you to shop faster. Perhaps you saw the latest fashion piece on one of your favorite fashion blogs. Visit sites such as Haute Look and eBay to find designer pieces for less. Staying fashionable can be expensive, so looking for alternatives to save money when buying fashion pieces to put toward a new pair of Louboutins can be time-consuming, but worth it.

Ultimately, finding affordable places to buy the latest fashion accessories is an important task. After finding your favorite places, you will never shy away from a new pair of leather gloves or suede booties again. Happy shopping!

A really great way to spend a Saturday morning is shopping with the girls. Going to local shops or antique spots can be a fun silly way to waste a few hours or find chic fashion items. Here are a few tips on how to find good local shops in your area.

Check with the locals. It’s a good idea to ask people who know the area. If they are local they may know of more shops and possibly less mainstream, yet still trendy places.

Check online. The Internet is used for everything from prepaid card purchases to blogging about hip hangouts. Facebook is a great place to start for local events and shopping deals!

Look in local papers/magazines. Many companies advertize in local papers. Local magazines are more likely to have cute boutique shops and hip hang out spots for those who are looking for a more intimate shopping scene. Mainstream city papers will have coupons for large department stores and maybe even outlet mall shopping deals.

Regardless of where you like to shop there are many ways to find what you are looking for. If worse comes to worst and you can’t find any information, you can always explore and simply happen upon a store or mall that might suit your needs perfectly. Not to mention, simply wandering in the place where you are can be a great way to meet new friends who might also like to shop!

Just like regular fashion, Halloween fashion ebbs and flows a bit with whatever is popular at the time. Something like leg-warmers or parachute pants are not considered fashionable anymore and, likewise, some may consider a Napoleon Dynamite or Barney costume somewhat out of date. It might seem silly to some, but costume style is important. After all, what ten-year-old wants to be the odd-one-out on a street of kids dressed in the latest costume styles?

Consider the following as sources for some of the latest Halloween costume styles:

Recent Movies

Recent movies refer to the last five years. A costume of Captain Jack Sparrow or a Twilight-like vampire or Harry Potter is more popular now than, say, a costume from Spaceballs, E.T., or Beetlejuice. With all the new, popular comic movies coming out, comic character costumes are always good.

Recent Television Shows

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and anything associated with them, were hugely popular in the eighties and nineties. As far as the latest Halloween costumes, though, they don’t really work. SpongeBob, Naruto, Family Guy, or other recent shows make good costume ideas.

Perennially Popular Costumes

The perennial costumes aren’t very recent, or they have little to no pop culture connection, yet they remain popular. Cowboys, knights, princesses, food, or animals are always good. Star Wars, Star Trek, and Winnie the Pooh are decades-old franchises that are still great for costumes. Popular literary characters like Huck Finn seem less affected by the passage of time, and they still make good costumes.

The latest costume styles for Halloween shouldn’t be hard to find. But parents should keep in mind that although a costume was popular when they were kids, it might not be popular anymore.

When you choose to dress as a cute animal for Halloween, first decide why you’re doing it. If you want to look sexy and be the center of attention, a skimpy dress with animal ears and a tail is probably a better bet. For those who want to look adorable, cuddly, and kid-friendly, the cute route is the right way to go! Not only that, but cuddly costumes are far more comfortable than the skimpy variety.

Many people put on face paint and wear neutral colored clothing and call it an animal costume. For those with more discerning tastes in fashion and Halloween costumes, though, this is too “do it yourself.” There are several varieties of cuddly animal costumes available. Typically, you can go with the following:

Skimpy/sexy animal costumes. Great for adult parties, but not for trick-or-treating or kids’ parties. Also not great for self-conscious people.

Jumpsuit-style cuddly animal costumes. These are great for all ages, and they are so comfortable you might just use them year-round for pajamas. Many different animals are available, which is nice, and kids can buy costumes to match parents or older siblings.

Regular-clothes animal costumes. Basically, normal clothes with animal patterns accessorized by face paint and props, such as ears, tails, and wings. These are good for people who are uncomfortable wearing baggy or tight clothing, but don’t feel as much like a costume as the other two types.

Selections of animal costumes available in stores will be limited, especially if you have a particular style of animal costume in mind. Instead, try doing a Web search. If you are buying the costume for yourself, be sure to add “adult” to the search keywords, or you’ll inevitably come up with lots of adorable toddler costumes.

One of the best ways to jazz up your wardrobe or to keep it fun and exciting is by adding accessories. Whether it’s purses, jewelry, hats, sunglasses or shoes, they all can make or break an outfit. Accessories are most often less expensive than fashion pieces, so tend to be very popular when it comes to updating your look. Finding discount accessories is simple if you take the time to search around.

Online

Websites like www.offers.com provide helpful information on great in-store and online deals. Coupon codes and printable coupons are also available, which makes finding discount accessories even cheaper (if you can imagine that)! Bidding websites like eBay also give shoppers an opportunity to find unique accessories that will catch the eyes of onlookers.

Discount Stores

Discount stores such as T.J. Maxx and Marshalls both offer designer accessories from Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Betsey Johnson (just to name a few) for up to 75 percent off. Find a new pair of designer sunglasses or a cute fashion clutch by Betsey. The best things in life don’t have to be expensive.

Chain Stores

Lastly, chain stores such as Target and Walmart often team up with designers to give customers a cheap alternative to looking good. The key is keeping abreast of the latest designer deals each store has running (and when they start), so you can be sure to get a piece of what they’re offering before they sell out.

Discounted high-end accessories are available for less. By taking time to find the best deals, you can expand your existing collection without spending a lot of money.

Media and fashion go hand in hand. Or can we say hand in glove? Without media there would be no fashion. Trends, contemporary styles, and latest fads are a make of creative media. These then get taken off and put into a materialistic marketable form by the fashion industry.

To take an example, Jack Sparrow’s costume in the Pirates of the Caribbean series has become a fashion fad. The personalization of Jack Sparrow was seen as an opportunity by the fashion industry to create a trend. People are influenced by what they see in films, and on television. It was ideal then that Jack Sparrow’s attitude and persona were worn by people, and accepted by others.

The fashion industry only rose to prominence with the rise of creative media development. In a time when there were few television channels, and a lesser variety of programs, there weren’t much fashion choices. But now things are different. A sea of television channels with plenty of televised programs, ensure that people have something to say like “This is the latest trend”.

Media has created fashion. But it is really doubtful the other way round – if fashion created media. Media was the need of people. They wanted to move around the world through a medium. And the only plausible medium was the visual medium.
Fashion is an extension of the visual medium. It is seeing and believing and dressing. Fashion is the state of mind of a collective consciousness in people. Be it nationally or internationally.

One common theme of fashion is that styles and colors change by the season. There are many ways that one can keep up with the seasonal fashion trends and add variety and diversity that work with any individual wardrobe.

In order to keep up with the seasonal fashion trends, it is important to study the styles which can be found in fashion magazines and on fashion web sites. The style for any season typically appears months before the start of any given season.

It is also important to study the colors of the upcoming season. Warmer months generally highlight more vibrant colors such as orange and pink while the cooler months focus on blue and brown. There are no rules regarding colors in any season so one can always expect variations from what might be considered normal.

Designers typically have runway shows to present their line for a season and these should be followed as closely as possible. When looking at these designs, it is important to pay attention to the details and finer lines that make each the seasonal fashion for each designer unique. These will serve as indications of the merchandise that stores will be stocking.

While following seasonal fashion trends, one should always try to invest in the more classic items such as blouses and blazers that never go out of style. These can be enhanced by combining items from different seasons such as knee-high socks with shorts or by buying inexpensive variations on the seasonal fashion trends that will be outdated within a year.

Hip-hop fashion is an expressive and meaningful style of dress. Its roots trace back to the early 1980s, when African-American teens in major cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis and many others were sporting new distinctive choices to express themselves. Every city contributed a variety of aspects to today’s hip-hop style seen around the world. The style strives to accompany the attitudes and expressions of hip-hop culture and reflect its significance.

Hip-hop culture is often known for its unique look that features an array of new one-of-a-kind styles that become popular overnight. Coogi clothing is a popular hip-hop brand that mixes both hip-hop and urban cultures. It links its popularity to the late Notorious BIG, who mentioned the brand in one of his hit songs.

Many hip-hop fashion brands are now branching out to offer choices for everyone in the family. For example, the Coogi clothing line features selections for infants and children as well as men and women. Hip-hop fashion also strives to provide multifunctional options for all occasions, from casual jeans and sweaters to sleek and sexy dresses.

Today, hip-hop fashion is a popular style around the world for individuals of all races, backgrounds, and ethnicities. The hip-hop style also reflects what is considered to currently be cool with consistently changing trends. With the constant emergence of new brands and the growth of current brands such as Coogi clothing, the hip-hop fashion style will continue to grow and be a popular choice among people around the world.

This year the styles make it hard to choose a favorite. That fact can make us feel as if we need help to decide on just one to wear. Here’s the list of top trends to remember for fashion 2011.

Across-the-body purses are more than just popular and they come in a wide array of colors and materials. Chains on part of the strap, or to replace the strap, mix it up and own it. Many across-the-body bags can be unfastened on one side to make it short-handled.

Scarves are still in, especially printed ones. They’re so popular, who cares what the season is? Some light, airy summer designs are out, but the one thing that will make it good is length. Long scarves are at the top of the list!

Old Fashions Come Back With New Life

Beads, beads, beads! Beaded bracelets and necklaces are very in right now, and the more bracelets the better. Fabric, beads and tribal designs are just what Fashion Week ordered.

Next is over-size gold watches. It’s a fashion statement for the arms, and some people are even wearing two at a time. Also popular is the more chunky or wide watch band.

Wedges are back! Such a comfy way to wear high heels, this retro fashion is right at the top these days. Wedges come in every color and style, like, sandals, half-boots and pumps, they all have a wedged heel.

Hats have the look again. Yes, it is once again fashionable to wear hats. Did you see the Royal Wedding? Fascinators, or the new forehead hats, were on everyone who is anyone. This is a funny style that only ‘works’ in elegant settings.

Everyone has seen the person who is dressed in the latest designer clothing that doesn’t look quite right. The cut, colors, patterns and material may all be trendy and right, but the fit is off. Not everyone is shaped the same way, which is why Apple Bottoms jeans look great on curvy women, whereas an ill-fitting shirt may make a woman look larger than she really is. Finding clothing that fits perfectly is one of the foremost rules of fashion.

Where the Fit Goes Wrong

Examples of the wrong fit are prevalent when you look around. From too-tight undergarments that dig into the skin to too-long jeans that drag on the floor or have to be rolled up, examples of improperly fitting clothing are plentiful. Ill-fitting clothing can also result from yo-yo dieting, bloating and other health issues that cause clothes to fit one week and not the next.

Finding the Right Fit

The trick to always wearing clothes that fit is seeking out specific designers. For the petite woman, Ann Taylor has an elegant section for business wear that allows a woman to instantly fit into slacks without the need for extra hemming. The curvaceous woman can feel comfortable in Apple Bottoms jeans knowing she will not have to squeeze into jeans that don’t fit. Other secrets for finding the right fit include finding stylish clothing made of stretchy materials, particularly for people whose weight often fluctuates.

With a little bit of attention to the right designs and materials, a person can find the right fit and look highly fashionable.

High profile designers from down under are playing a competitive game in the wedding market, with some former red-carpet couturiers switching to the bridal aisle as well. Â

Internationally renowned Australian designers such as Alex Perry, Henry Roth and Collette Dinnigan lead the pack.

Perry has dressed women such as Eva Longoria and Rihanna and says he wants brides to “feel like celebrities” when they wear his dresses. Perry pushes the boundaries with his designs but describes them as having a modern edge while maintaining simplicity.

Henry Roth’s latest bridal media appearance was a dress for Jakica Ivancevic on her marriage to Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies. While he also dresses celebrities for the red carpet, his goal is to make “affordable couture,” with bridal dresses starting from $1,400 (US).

Roth’s mother Aneta Weinreich was a bridal designer, as is his sister Michelle with whom he set up shop in New York in 1997. Roth spent two years as a judge on “Style Court” for the Style Network and was a mentor for Project Runway Australia contestants.

Collette Dinnigan was born in South Africa, moved to New Zealand as a child and later to Sydney.

Dinnigan started designing ready-to-wear clothing before branching out to lingerie and bridal wear. Women such as Sarah Murdoch have sported her bridal designs. She says her bridal wear “has an heirloom feel” and encapsulates aristocratic glamor and femininity. Dinnigan has one piece of advice for brides: pick something that will make you feel on top of the world.
